Top Reads: The Vitruvian Crucifixion is a representation of The Vitruvian Man by Leonardo da Vinci and the Crucifixion of Jesus.
Inspired by the theory da Vinci developed whilst creating the original Vitruvian Man in 1490. Da Vinci’s theory suggests that the workings of the human body is an analogy for the workings of the universe. This is because of the mathematical proportions each
of our fleshly bodies have. The square and circle surrounding the figure comes from a description by ancient Roman architect Vitruvius in Book III of his treatise ‘De architectura’. I chose to replace The Vitruvian Man with the Crucifixion of Jesus to allude to the idea that He was the perfect man. This re lates to Da Vinci’s concept of how man is in proportion to the universe and how Jesus is in proportion to God.
